While it is true that marriages fail and break up for a variety of reasons—couples from all walks of life experience this—the idea that celebrity marriages are flawless is still a myth that many people need to get over.

 

It’s true that when famous people reveal they’re engaged, their coworkers, friends, and fans wish them luck and typically wait with expectation for the nuptials.

Some fans cheer such decisions, especially when the marriage is abusive, while others grow dissatisfied and distraught years later when the marriage falters.

 

Some well-known celebrities have ended their marriages since the circumstances were no longer convenient for them. We’ll look at 10 famous marriages that didn’t work out in 2022.

 

Ireti & Patrick Doyle

Ireti Doyle, a Nigerian actress, officially announced her divorce from renowned broadcaster Patrick Doyle in January. Ireti revealed this during an interview with well-known media figure Chude Jideonwo. Ireti made the comment that she had no business getting married when she became a mother after describing how she had experienced physical and domestic violence as a teenager. The actress posted the interview footage to Instagram with the caption “We are officially divorced.” The mother of four had left her husband’s home and was now residing in an apartment in Lagos’ Anthony Village.

 

Julius Agwu & Ibiere

In 2022, word spread that Julius Agwu and his wife, Ibiere, had separated after a 14-year marriage. On May 31, 2008, Mr. Agwu and his wife were united in marriage in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. They have two children, Zahra and Zadok.

 

The couple faced a number of difficulties after Mr. Agwu’s successful brain surgery in 2015. He bounced back, but in 2016, when performing in London, he relapsed. On December 11th, though, the comic acknowledged their divorce in an interview with Daddy Freeze, an on-air personality.

 

Korra Obidi & Justin Dean

Korra Obidi, a singer, writer, and dancer, put an unsavory end to their marriage in March 2022. Dean announced his impending divorce, calling it the hardest choice of his life. He claimed that his mental health was the reason he was ending the marriage. He then made a courtroom commitment to challenge Obidi for full custody of their two daughters. As soon as her divorce was finalized and she was awarded custody of her children in November, Korra posted on social media to celebrate.

 

Kalu Ikeagwu and Ijeoma

Nollywood star Kalu Ikeagwu claimed in May before the Ikeja High Court that his estranged wife, Ijeoma, had fled their marital residence and was preventing him from seeing their two children.

In the lawsuit LD/8939HD/2021, Mr. Ikeagwu requested the separation of his six-year union with makeup artist Ijeoma. The British-Nigerian star also asks for full custody of his stepdaughter, age ten, and son, age three.

 

Funke & JJC

In June, veteran rapper, Abdulrasheed Bello, better known as JJC Skillz, confirmed that his marriage to actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has ended. In a statement, Skillz announced to the public that they are both “pursuing separate lives.”

 

Paul Okoye & Anita

Paul Okoye of the popular singing duo P-Square and Anita,were granted a divorce by an Abuja High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama.The couple had been married for eight years when the former filed for divorce from the latter in July, alleging several problems.Paul Okoye recently unveiled a new lover with the divorce been finalized.

 

Joseph Ameh & Kaffy

Although they officially parted ways last year, news of the divorce of professional dancer and instructor Kafayat Ameh, known as Kaffy Dance, and her husband, Joseph Ameh, filtered in early 2022.Kaffy had disclosed in her new podcast episode ‘JustKaffy’ that she’s single but not searching. The dancer revealed that she was bitter in her marriage and that taking a chance to break up her marriage was to see both parties grow in their different careers.

 

Saint Obi and Lynda

In 2022 news of veteran Nollywood Saint Obi, divorcing his wife, Lynda Nwafor nee Amobi, was made public. The Judge handling the case, Omotayo O. Majekodunmi, issued a bench warrant for her arrest. In a suit filed at the High Court of Ogun State, the actor accused his wife Lynda and her brothers, Michael and Chukwumobi Amobi, of attempting to kill him.

 

Do2dtun & Omotayo

Omotayo, the wife of on-air-personality Kayode Ojuolape Oladotun, popularly known as Do2dtun, filed for separation from the Cool FM’s host over allegations of forced abortion, domestic violence and emotional abuse.His wife is the younger sister of the famous singer D’banj.The duo got married in 2013, and the marriage produced two children.However.

 

Basketmouth & Elsie

Comedian Bright Okpocha popularly known as Basketmouth announced that he was was divorcing his wife, Elsie,in December 2022.Basketmouth, who has been married to Elsie for 12 years, described the separation as an unavoidable situation.

 

He wrote; “After much deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage.As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance and support they need.”

 

The couple have three children.
